FEBRUARY 9, 2009 MONDAY
Today was P-day again (boy they come quick), but alas, only in name only because we worked most of the day. It was not doing the usual missionary work but, never-the-less, it’s one of our assignments: supporting and looking after the missionaries. Elders Pine, Harris, Evans, Jensen, Ehlen and Hoffman had made arrangements to come today to do their emails and get haircuts. Since they were all coming about lunch time, Diana cooked a delicious thick potato/rice soup and made hot chocolate. In addition we provided bread, butter, crackers, and I made a banana cream pudding. The Elders love the brownies too. As all of this was going on we got one more call; it was Elders Norris and Eschweiler who heard someway that we had a party going on in our apartment. I quickly and emphatically advised him it was not a party, but important stuff was happening and he and his companion could come join us, if they wanted. So Diana got busy and extended the left-over soup with a few more potatoes and other ingredients to have enough for the last two Elders. We ended up with eight in all and six of them needed haircuts. When all was said and done the last of the Elders left about 3:30, but all were happy having completed their emails, eaten their fill and looking sharp. After that came cleanup, vacuuming and washing dishes. We plopped on the bed for an hours nap and then up and out to the grocery store to replenish milk, eggs, butter, cream and etc. We had to be back home in time to get ready and go to the FHE at the Bolt’s at 7:00.
Before the day really started, however, Diana met Naeide at 7:00 for her morning hour walk. When she got back she said she was freezing and the walking kills her. Anyone who knows Diana, knows she hates to walk, but she does it with Naeide because she loves her and wants to support her. While she was gone, I gathered up all the empty cans and took them to the recycle containers outside and then stuffed the garbage bag full and got it ready to take out to the dumpster. There’s still a couple of millimeters of space left, and we pay by the bag, so we’ll stuff it to overflowing before we finally take it out. The door buzzer rang and when I looked out, it was the mailman with a package for me. It was a birthday present from Monica and her family. The sweater was just what I needed for P-days and the candy and stuff was also great. The B-day cards from Robby and Jade were also wonderful. Thanks.
WE had another great FHE; Juerg gave the lesson on charity and then we played another game. This time everyone was given a small piece of paper on which everyone wrote down something funny that another person would have to act out. An example would be something like, “bark like a dog.” When everyone was finished and had the paper folded, everyone would continue passing the folded paper to his left until stop was called. No one was supposed to look at their paper until it was their turn to act out what it said. The trick was that no one was supposed to laugh when the person was acting out the scenario. Of course that would we impossible so the first one to laugh would then be the next one to act out what his paper said. Some of them were hilarious and everyone had a lot of fun. After it was over we walked home in the rain. It looks like the next few days is going to be rainy and snowing and cold again. Boo Hoo.

that game sounds like a fun one! we'll have to try it! and i always love lessons on charity.. love you!
I am surprised you don't have another fridge put in your apt. just to keep enough food in for the day with all of the partying...oh, I mean, important work you do with the elders! Now that you are getting in the habit of feeding everyone, I will remember that when you get home! ;)
That game does sound like fun. I want to know what brownies mom makes that are so delicious? I've never had a brownie made my mom. Do the elders have a different computer they can use to do emails or is yours the only one (or is it because you always have food readY)?
