MAY 22, 2010 SATURDAY

This morning we started off the day by calling three referrals Elder Dahneke gave us after their street contacting activity last Wednesday while their companions held their zone council meeting. Two of their referrals gave them either a bad phone number or a bad email address. The other one didn’t answer his phone. We’ll try him again. We called another one we got some time ago, but still didn’t find him home either. We also went through our own list to see if we could contact them and make appointments and/or invite them to Church. We left a message with Martin Hedinger (he never answers his phone). Kofi didn’t answer. Jasmine Hunziker answered and we made an appointment with her for next Wednesday morning. We talked to Priska Staehelin, but Michael didn’t have his new work schedule yet so we’ll have to call her back after next week. We also texted Agnes and Angie Lloyd to let them know we think about them and keep them in our prayers. Angie texted back to let us know she is going to be baptized May 30 and invited us to come. We responded back that we’d be delighted to come and to count on us.

We needed to go grocery shopping today to get a few things for lunch tomorrow after sacrament meeting. We’ve invited Brother & Sister Hoenle to come help us teach Paul the new convert lessons and before the lesson, we wanted to have them to lunch. We called Paul to ask him if he needed us to pick up anything for him while we were in Germany, but he declined the offer saying he didn’t need anything right now. We made the trip and bought mostly stuff for a salad, but also some strawberries to make a strawberry pie for dessert and some boxes of thin mint cookies to give away when we’re invited to dinner.

When we got to Erzingen, we had to walk past a little flea market to get to the grocery store so we had a look at what they had. We bought nine of the little metal plates with names of towns on them that people nail on walking sticks. We saw a large cut amethyst geode for $250 that we would have liked to have bought, but it was way too big and heavy to be able to get it back to the states.

This evening we visited Sylvain in the hospital again and he seems to be doing much better. He’s been doing some serious thinking about his life and he really does want to make some changes. While we were there, we got to know his roommate a little. We met him yesterday while we were there and we promised to bring him a book. Tonight we gave it to him so we’ll see what he says about it when we go visit Sylvain tomorrow night. Sylvain made the comment that now he’ll probably have to answer some questions. We hope he does.

The tender mercy is that Silvia called Jasmine and invited her to the branch BBQ on Monday and today when we talked to her, she said she would go if at all possible. That’s very encouraging and helpful if Jasmine can get to know and make friends with our members.
