SEPTEMBER 6, 2009 SUNDAY

BYU BEAT OKLAHOMA 14 TO 13 WoooooooHooooooo

We arrived at our correlation meeting at 8:00 and those attending this morning besides us were Elders Nilsson and Dockstader, GML Marcel Daehler and Pres. & Sister Matern. Elders Harris & Richeson were visiting a different ward. The people we discussed from our list were Nelly Rathgeb, the Wachters, Sister Schaer, Tony Dkere, Silvana Gianatti, and Verena Bosshard. We also mentioned Elisabeth Kalt, the Rodriguez family, the Costas, and Stefan Fuhrer. After this meeting was over we were hoping to see Tony Dkere sometime today, but he disappointed us and didn’t come again. Sunday school was good and it was great to see Margarita Maurer there and participating in the discussion. After sunday school I went out into the foyer looking for Tony and the Rodriguez family and anyone else who I didn’t recognize so I could greet them, but none came. Before Fast & Testimony meeting started Suki came and sat by Diana. She is always looking to Diana for advice and comfort and laid her head on Diana’s shoulder for awhile. I went back into the chapel and saw that Priscilla had slipped onto the bench on the other side of Diana so I sat by Priscilla during the meeting. We had a great Fast & Testimony meeting, never a second going to waste.

After the meeting we invited the Lochers to come to our appointments this week with Silvana and Verena, but they said they were busy so we’ll go alone. We also talked with Sister Ryser to see if she could come with us to visit Elisabeth Kalt who lives in a care center. She said she’s busy this week, but could come with us next week. Sister Schaer finally brought me the cake recipe Marilyn asked for that doesn’t use flour. She said it would be good for people who have gluten intolerance. Sister Sigrist, the mother of Nikolas, brought us some zucchini and cucumbers from her garden. She is such a sweet sister who lives way out in Forch.

It’s hard to leave and go home, but we needed to because Agnes was coming over for a quick birthday celebration. We also invited Neide and the missionaries and Agnes brought her friend, Jessica. We hurried home, made icing and Diana used white chocolate to write “Happy Birthday Agnes” on it. We also put 17 candles on it, one for each year. While we were doing that, Neide came and we put her to work making ham and cheese sandwiches. Soon everyone was present and we had a blessing and got started. It was a fun hour and then Agnes’ friend and two missionaries had to leave for a teaching appointment, but the others stayed for another hour or so. Soon everyone was gone and we were left to clean up and recuperate for a couple of hours.

Early in the evening we went to visit Stefan, the son of Eddie and Marlis Fuhrer, who had a birthday today. We visited him last November or December and had a good visit with him. At that time he said he just didn’t feel like coming to Church, that it wasn’t important to him at this time in his life, but said he would come for special occasions. We have yet to see him at a Church function. He was home and we talked with him, his wife and her daughter (from another marriage), but didn’t get to see their two year old Brian. We wished him a happy birthday and invited him to come to Church again, but he gave us the same answer as last time. We told him General Conference was coming up and he ought to at least come to it. He said it was too boring and lasted too long for him, but would come to other things maybe. We left it at that, said goodbye and left.

We came back home and spent the rest of the night calling people to invite them to home evening tomorrow night and looking for a good subject to give the lesson on. We also did some emails, including to Jan Tolman with some photographs for her Relief Society blog and to Sister Aeberli the same photos for the ward newsletter about the homemaking activity last Wednesday. Later this evening we got our phone call from Elder Carrier to get our weekly report statistics. Elder Norton called too, to see if he could get a haircut tomorrow. Pres. Matern also asked if I would cut his hair before district meeting on Tuesday. The answer to both was yes, I will.

The tender mercy of the Lord today was that sister Sigrist, a poor sister who lives with her husband in Forch, brought us some vegetables out of her garden. She doesn’t have much, but what she has, she’s willing to share.
