JULY 24, 2009 FRIDAY PIONEER DAY

This morning we were at the mission home at 10:00 to help with moving some more furniture around. President Matern wanted to move out some cabinets and shelves from one of the upstairs bathrooms that looked good to us, but were made out of cheap material (pressed board). After doing that we brought up a cabinet and a shelf unit that were made out of very heavy solid and thick oak. The top needed a little refinishing, but that’s his worry. Moving stuff around like that will make old people out of us really fast! In addition to that we filled the van with old beds, furniture, boxes, and various other stuff and took it to the garbage sort center not far from where we live. We made a return trip to the mission home and filled the van up with more excess furniture, but in better condition. Pres. Matern and Brother Klaumunzner thought the Salvation Army would accept these, but they turned their nose up at it and told us to keep it. Although we didn’t want to, our only option was to take it to the dump and get rid of it. After the first trip Bro. Klaumunzner took us by our apartment to drop off some new carpet pieces Diana wanted to carpet our hall with and also to put under our table in the living room. After the second load he dropped us off so we didn’t have to ride back home on the tram. We also salvaged a couple of pictures to go on our walls; one was of the Salt Lake temple and the other was a picture of the 1st Presidency. We finished around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Yesterday we received a notice in the mail that we had a package at the post office ready for us to pick up. I went over there and got it and it turned out to be a package from Monica and her family. We were excited to get it and Diana is in seventh heaven now because she has some black licorice. They also sent us two interesting liquid-filled balls, some vitamins, Ibuprofen, and a cake mix. Thanks for everything!!!!

We took time to fit the carpet in the hallway, but Diana wanted to scrub the carpet under the table that would be under the new carpet rather than just put the new over the old. This whole process took the rest of the afternoon except we made a few phone calls. We talked to Remi, Carolyn Maurer’s son, but found out his mother, Carolyn, is on vacation for a couple of weeks. We have yet to meet her. Diana called Susan Serfoesoe, but she didn’t have time to talk because she was on the other phone and said she would call her back, but she didn’t. We called Hildegunde Schroeder, who promised us again, that she would be to Church next Sunday, cross my heart and hope to die.

We have been assigned to drive the van to Freiburg, Germany, tomorrow to pick up some furniture left behind by the Horlacher’s who went home last week after having served their missions faithfully. We are hoping this trip goes better than the last one. Driving around today Brother Klaumunzner had me get out of the van every time he had to back up just to make sure he didn’t back into anything. It was a good object lesson for us and we will for sure do the same thing tomorrow. He gave us the name of the contact person to call to make arrangements to meet him tomorrow, but when I wanted to do that, I couldn’t find the paper he wrote it on. I had to finally call Bro. Klaumunzner and get the information again. I called and made arrangements to meet the person in Freiburg at noon tomorrow. We are also supposed to drop off a small table to the missionaries in Baden on our way through, but they haven’t answered their phone yet.

We made arrangements with Elder Pine to gas up the van, pick up the table and park it in the Church parking lot for us to get in the morning. He called late tonight and informed us they would bring it over in the morning at 9:30 which is okay by us. Just so we don’t have to drive through the middle of Zurich during rush hour.

Rebecca skyped us wanting to know where she could get some cultured marble to put in a tub surround in one of her bathrooms. We told her she could have some we have stacked in our barn, but to be careful getting the pieces out that she wants and also to make sure she has it supported good for when they cut it to fit, otherwise it will break fairly easy.

While Diana was talking to Rebecca, Suwang called to tell us her cat got scared a few days ago during the thunder and lightning/rain storm and hadn’t come home for a few days. She was worried it would get cold, starve and die. She asked us to say a prayer for her that she could find her cat; she was going out to look for it as soon as we hung up. She also said she received a blessing from her bishop to help her not be afraid when she gets an operation to fix her lung in a few days. As soon as she hung up we said a prayer that she’d find her cat. Not a half hour later she texted us that she had found the cat and thanked us for helping her. The Lord really does answer prayers!!! But we already knew that.

Hi Andrea! It's good to hear from you again. You need to bring us up to date on what's happened and happening in your life. Don't be a stranger any more.

Busy as ever, as usual. Just make sure you check your blind spots when you are driving so much. Yes, the Lord knows that whatever is important to us, is important to Him too...even stupid cats. It is amazing at what goes to the dump, aren't there any needy that would take good stuff? I bet the dump is soooooo huge.
