MAY 11, 2009 MONDAY
Since we didn’t get in until late last night and we were really tired, we left the journal entry to write until this morning. It always takes more than an hour to write and I was writing as fast as I could, but I didn’t get quite finished before Elders Harris and Nilsson were ringing our doorbell. We weren’t exactly expecting them because they normally call and ask if they can come over. It was a little inconvenient, but we accommodated them in that they wanted to use our computer to do their e-mails. We made them wait until we had ours posted and then turned them loose. We had to shower and dress in our little bathroom, but we got it done. After I was showered and shaved, I cut Elder Nilsson’s hair. Before I was through with him, Charlotte was at our door to hurray us along for our P-day activity. We had all decided to go to the “Transportation Museum” in Luzern and needed to be at the Zurich Bahnhof at 11:00 to catch our train. I hurried and finished him, but didn’t have time to clean up. We all made a dash for the train after we arrived at the bahnhof by tram. We made it with one minute to spare! The ride there was pleasant, but uneventful.
We met the other elders and sisters at the Luzern Bahnhof and took the tram to the museum. It had all kinds of transportation vehicles showing the old to the fairly new; trains, airplanes, space vehicles, boats, and anything else you can think of. Of course we weren’t able to see a lot because we only had a few hours to spend there. To do it justice you’d have to spend a couple of days walking through the exhibits. It also had an IMAX theater and everyone wanted to see the 3-D movie of Dinosaurs. Elder Jensen called Pres. Matern and he gave us permission to see it. Some of it was fun, but most of it was a documentary. It also had a stage where you could act as news broadcasters, etc and record yourself and then post it to your email. We didn’t know exactly how to do it, but it was fun trying. We’ll post some photos on our blog.
We got home just in time to get ready and go to the family home evening. Elder Harris gave a good lesson from the first discussion in the Preach My Gospel book. Pres. Bolt had the game and had us play an old scout game called the Atomic Egg. There were ropes tied to each end of a 4" PVC pipe elbow, one for each player. The object of the game was to have each player hold onto the end of their respective rope while scooping up 7 tennis balls, transporting them to a small flower pot and dumping them into it. It’s a team building game and requires communication and working together as a team. It took us a long time to get it done, but we learned a lot as we went. The other game was to take 12 16 penny nails and balance all of them on the head of another one pounded upright into a board. If you know the trick, it’s easy. Neide made a dessert from her native Brazil which was similar to flan. It was very delicious.
