APRIL 27, 2009 MONDAY

We awoke to a very rainy overcast morning which put a damper on our plans for today, at least for the afternoon. While we were thinking of what we could do today, Naeide called and asked if she could come over. She arrived shortly thereafter and wanted to bring us up to date on her relationship with her son. He had a fight with his girlfriend and she threw him out so he had no place to stay. He has to go talk to the police on Tuesday so she told him he could stay that long. In the meantime she located an apartment for him to move into by himself in order to get him out of her house. She just wanted to explain to us why she had let him back into her home and hoped we’d understand. While she was there, Elders Pine and Harris came. It’s become almost routine for the missionaries to come over on Monday mornings to take care of their emails on our computer. Usually it’s just Elders Pine and Harris, but today we got a call from Elders Ehlen & Roberts who also wanted to come over. Not long after they arrived, we got a call from Elders Evans & Jensen wanting to do the same thing. They ended up not coming because they decided there may be too many for them to get the necessary time on the computer, so they went to a computer café to do their emails.

When the missionaries come, Diana automatically brings out some food. This time it was the makin’s for ham and cheese sandwiches. Bread, ham, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonaise, miracle whip etc. were placed on the table and they had to make their own. None of them were shy including us and Naeide. We always have a good time.

Elder Harris asked for a hair cut while he was here and waiting for his turn on the computer so I cut it. Then I cut Elder Pine’s hair. As I was cutting his, Elder Evans texted us and said they wouldn’t be coming. We texted back that the barber shop was open (I knew they both needed haircuts, especially Elder Evans since he’s transferring Thursday) and if they wanted one, they better hurry. They got here just as I was finishing Elder Pine. Four haircuts on our P-day!!!! No play today.

We had arranged with Charlotte to go on a boat ride on Zurich Lake with her and Elders Evans and Jensen when all was done, but the weather put that out of the question. Instead they decided to go shopping and invited us along. While I was cutting hair, Diana left with Naeide to do some grocery shopping. She felt bad when Naeide had to pay for the tram ride because Naeide doesn’t have that much money. She said she had a good time, but walked more than she would have liked. She found another store for vegetables, but said she wouldn’t go out of her way to go there because it is so far away. She got back just in time for us to go with Elders Evans & Jensen and Charlotte, but we decided to do our own shopping for some more plants and soil for our balcony garden. We bought another tomato plant as well as one cucumber and one zucchini plus a bag of potting soil. We also stopped at COOP for some supplies to replenish what the missionaries ate today. We’ve spent our budget for the month so we need to be careful the last few days of April.

Elder Pine bought his replacement external hard drive so he wanted to transfer all his files off this computer onto his own hard drive. He came a few minutes before we were supposed to leave for family home evening at the Moeller-Russos. We gave them our extra set of keys and told them to lock up and give us the keys at FHE and then we left. Pres. Bolt had the lesson tonight and talked about the miracle of turning water to wine and what we can learn from it. Next we played a game called “Chinese Whispers.” The game goes like this. Three people are chosen to go out of the room. The remaining people designate three things, a person, a place and a thing. After this has been decided, the 1st of the three is invited back into the room and told what person, place and thing was decided. The 2nd of the three is then invited back into the room. The 1st person then must try to communicate who the person is, what the place is and what the thing is without talking. The 3rd person is then invited back into the room. The 2nd person then tries to communicate the identity of the three things to the 3rd person without using any words. To end the round the 3rd person tells the group who he believes the person is, what the place is and what the thing is. It’s hilarious to see how they try to describe in body language the identity of these three things. For example: the person could be Michal Jackson, the place could be a volcano, and the thing could be a golf ball. Try to communicate these things to a person without using words.

Before we leave FHE Pres. Bolt always makes sure we plan the next one or two. Diana had a good suggestion for an activity next time and everyone thought it was a great idea. Fabian Streit is on a six month army duty assignment stationed in Kosovo. Diana suggested we put together a care package for him. Postage is free through the army system. Everyone will bring something next week to put in it.

Elder Pine had not finished transferring his files before they left to come to FHE so they hurried back to our place to finish before we got home. Unfortunately they hadn’t so we had to wait. Finally he finished and they left. Shortly after Elder Ehlen called asking us if we had found his day planner. Unfortunately we hadn’t and a quick search proved futile. Poor Elder Ehlen.
