Halina, Suwang, Diana. There are two deer in this photo if you look carefully

MARCH 14, 2009 SATURDAY

Today we had a lunch appointment with the Martin family and had a really enjoyable time. They had two of their little granddaughters there and they were a lot of fun to play with while sister Martin finished cooking. The main dish was a casserole made of potatoes, carrots and onions and was very good. The dessert was made from Schand, a thick pudding-like substance, with grated apples and cut up oranges. It was delicious so we asked her how it was made. She was sorry to say the Shand was only sold in Germany and you can’t get it here in Switzerland. They make a trip up there occasionally and stock up on it when they do. Diana gave them a Sunstone she made as part of our spiritual thought about which they were very excited. For my part, I talked about faith and then tried out the object lesson. Sister Martin was the first to try it and she didn’t have quite enough faith to get the job done. It does get a little hot before you see the results. The second to try it was Brother Martin. This time he endured to the end and had faith enough to see the end result. Sister Martin was a little aggravated that it didn’t work for her because she said she had more faith than her husband. But then she relented and said she was glad he had faith because that’s why she married him. As we were leaving we invited them to our home for dinner sometime next month to which they readily agreed. Sister Martin asked if it would be ok to bring a non-member friend with her. We told her she could bring as many non-member friends with them as they could find. I guess this is what member-missionary work is all about, isn’t it?

We came home and finished writing some thoughts in the journal book the FHE group has as a surprise gift for Charlotte. We called President Bolt to see if we could bring it to him because they were the last who needed to write in it, but he said they were too tired and to just bring it with us tomorrow to the baptism.

This evening we visited Suwang in the hospital again and this time Halina was there. Suwang is doing well, but will still have to go to the rehab hospital next week because she doesn’t have the strength to walk yet. She should find out next Monday what day they’ll transfer her. Halina is always fun to talk to, but we wished we could talk about the Church with her. She is just finishing her bachelors and will soon after begin her Masters Program. We’ll continue friendshipping and hope for the best.

After this visit we came home and made some tapioca pudding for tomorrow’s baptism. If we have some surprise visitors for lunch after Church, it may not last until the baptism. Who knows?

You will have to email me the object lesson...I want to know! Your deer photo reminds me of the game you recently sent me, "deer hunt". What a beautiful place to go running. Let us know about the dinner with that family coming next month.
