MARCH 12, 2009 THURSDAY
It is so difficult to write a journal entry every day and keep it interesting when it seems we do the same things, at least from when we wake up until we leave our apartment to go out visiting or contacting. But, we’ll do the best we can. Our goal today was to take gifts/cards to three members, Andreas, Rolf and Alexander. Our first stop was in Schwamendingen for Rolf, but we decided to go by Cornelia Schaer, a less active member we have been trying to contact for some time. We did find her home, but she asked us to come by next week because she didn’t have time for us today. This is the second time we have talked to her through the speaker system, but we have yet to meet her face to face. Hopefully we can do that next week. We continued on to Rolf’s home, but he wasn’t in. We left his gift/card in his mailbox. While we were underway to the next one, Elder Pine called to see if we had Margarita’s phone number with us. She is the one who was in the hospital with a knee problem and they were at her door. They rang the doorbell, but she didn’t answer. They wanted to call her to see if she was home, but just couldn’t answer the door because of her knee. Unfortunately, we only had her old number. We next went to Andreas’ home which took about an hour by bus/tram and feet. But they weren’t home either. We thought at least his wife would be home because they have small children. We left his gift/card in his mailbox. And last we went to see if we could catch Alexander, who turned 18 today, at home. We didn’t find anyone there either. So we did the only thing we could, put his gift/card in the mailbox too. We called them all this evening to make sure they found their present and the wish them a happy birthday.
After we dropped off the last gift to Alexander we walked the 20 minutes back to the bus stop and just as we were getting close, we saw the bus go by. It only comes every thirty minutes so we decided to walk all the way back to the Bassersdorf Bahnhof. But, before we did, we knocked on the door of a member we’ve been trying to contact and every time we come this way we try again because he door is only thirty feet away from the bus stop. She wasn’t home, or didn’t answer her door. We noticed her name was gone off the tag by her doorbell, but was still on the mailbox, so we don’t know if she still lives there or not. We walked back to the bahnhof and arrived there just as the bus we would have been on, if we had waited, got there. Instead of going home on the bus/tram by way of Stettbach, we decided to take the S-train into Zurich Bahnhof because we wanted to see the bazaar we thought they had set up there yesterday. We thought they may be selling stuff for Easter, but when we got there, there wasn’t anything. What we saw them setting up yesterday must of been only for that day. What a disappointment. We got on Tram#7 and rode it to Schwamendingen to buy a few things from COOP and then went home. We intended to go back out and visit Suwang in the hospital, but we just ran out of gas. We’ll have to make sure we get there tomorrow.
Diana took a photo of a little bridge we walk over to get to the Sannemann’s home. The other photo is of a playground near Elder Pine's investigator we went to last night.
