JANUARY 28, 2009 WEDNESDAY

As we planned out our day the first thing we wanted to do was try to visit Kofi again and maybe this time he would be home. Second, we wanted to visit Sis. Bader, the person we tried to visit on Jan. 1st, but she had a cold and asked us to come back. We also wanted to visit Sis. Gianatti who we visited before Christmas who isn’t active. After that we had some other members in the area who weren’t home the first time around.

We walked to Kofi’s home, knocked and this time he was home. He invited us in and we had a good conversation. He is a taxi driver and has lived in Switzerland for 20 years. He originally came from somewhere in Africa and the family speaks English, his wife, Phylis, better than he. They have four sons, two of them live at home and the one that was present (Bobie, about 14) spoke at least three languages and probably four or more. Kofi was converted in 1989, was active for a couple of years and then moved around a lot and lost contact with the church. We talked about the need for prophets and the authority to act for God (Priesthood). We got into a discussion about the BM and some other Gospel topics. We told them we have an organized lesson plan that we could teach them which would be a better way instead of jumping around. Both Kofi and Phylis agreed to a follow up appointment next Saturday at 2:00. We are excited and feel blessed that we finally have someone we can teach the Gospel to. Kofi is the only member of the family that is a member.

We left there and traveled to Bassersdorf to see if Sis. Bader was home. As the bus pulled up to the stop, Diana saw her go up her steps and into her apartment which was just across the road from the bus stop. We thought that finally we would be able to visit her after the many attempts. We rang the doorbell and she didn’t answer. We rang again and then knocked. No answer. We waited about five minutes in case she was indisposed, but she just wouldn’t answer the door. We finally went away disappointed again. The others we tried to visit were also not home so we left a note and an invitation to come to the fireside Sunday night and also for the meeting with Elder Bednar on February 12. It would be nice if it would warm up a few degrees so the ears, noses and hands wouldn’t freeze off.

We traveled back to Schwamendingen, stopped at Migros to buy some more groceries and then we came home. Now it’s preparation and study time as well as filling out the daily reports. Elders P&M and E&E were part of the group that went to the temple today so we knew they wouldn’t be calling us today. I did call the missionaries in the Altstetten ward and informed them of the contact we had made with Sis. Vedani, a member of their ward, that she was wanting to return to activity in the church. They looked her name up in their ward list and there was a note by her name that said she wanted no contact with the church. We assured them that she was very friendly and had expressed the desire to become active again. They promised they would visit her and give her all the support they could.
