JANUARY 24, 2009 SATURDAY

We were surprised by an early morning urgent call from Elder Pine who was experiencing severe pain from a wisdom tooth. It’s been bothering him for sometime and he’s been trying to baby it along till he goes home in August. He’s decided he’s not going to make it that long. He wanted us to look up how much removing it would cost and if we could find him a dentist on the internet. We tried to google something up, but we just couldn’t find anything that would help him. He called back after 45 minutes or so and told us the pain had subsided. He and Elder Middleton had an appointment close to where we live and he asked if they could stop by to see if he could find something. They arrived about 10:00 and after searching for awhile, he decided he’d just email his parents and tell them the bad news, that he couldn’t wait to get it done. Later on today he told us he’d made arrangements with a member dentist in Altstaetten to make an appointment Monday. Then they left for their appointment.

We left to go visit B. Roffler and give him his birthday present. Unfortunately he wasn’t home and it appeared he hadn’t been home for a long time because his mailbox was stuffed full. We barely had room to stuff his box of cookies and card in. We went back home to meet Elders Pine and Middleton to go with me to Kofi’s appointment. Diana didn’t feel she could communicate good enough in German so she elected to stay home and repair Elder P’s coat while they went with me. It felt strange not having Diana with me. Again we were disappointed because Kofi was called to work. His wife said to try again, that it’s usually a good time to call between 11:00 and 1:00. We did discover they can talk good English and so next time Diana should feel comfortable in coming.

We came back home, fed the missionaries lunch and then we left to visit Julia Nunez because it was also her birthday today. But we were disappointed again; her daughter said she was on vacation. We left the gift anyway and hope it will help her remember that the Church hasn’t forgotten her even though it appears she has forgotten the Church. We thought Saturday would be a good day to catch people home, but at least today it was not. On the way home we picked up some tomatoes, sage seasoning and oranges for tomorrow’s dinner. We were disappointed there too. Denise called and said she would have to cancel coming tomorrow because her daughter was really sick with the flu. She thought at first it was appendicitis, but the doctor told her it was just good old flu they think. We’ll invite her and her less-active mother another time.

We were reading tomorrow’s lessons and spending a quiet evening at home when Elder Pine called and asked us why we weren’t at the ward’s ‘Dance Evening?” We had forgotten and didn’t feel up to going this late. A little while later he called again and asked if we had anything for a headache because someone at the dance had a headache. We told them we did and they came over to get it. While they were here, they coaxed us into going to the activity. We were glad we went because the whole Wachter family was there as well as Naeide (she’s been sick) and Rolf, people we’ve been working with. It was also good to be with ward members who’ve become our friends. After the dance we walked Naeide home and then we made it home ourselves. I finished our correlation report for tomorrow, wrote our journal report and now it’s good night.

I'm surprised at how often the people AREN'T home! Especially during the winter. What will it be like in the summer? Do you feel like you've been gone a long time?

Aren't missionaries supposed to have their wisdom teeth removed before going?

Missionaries don't necessarily have to get the wisdom teeth pulled before a mission. If you remember, I had mine pulled on my mission too. We can't believe it's already been 4 months since we've been gone. We'll be home before you know it. I'll have to find out the name of the trees. Yes, buzzers were just the same 45 years ago. Sometimes we can get in to ring the buzzer on the actual apartment door. We've tried to post notes on the Doyle's blog, but can't figure it out. We get an error message each time. Time to go to church.

I'm sorry you're not able to post your comments on our site. I'll have to ask Kevin what the problem is. Others have done it successfully. You two do a lot of walking. You must be in wonderful shape! Plus, I would never miss a dance...

Keep up the good work. We feel guilty having a car and so many members who invite us to dinner.
