small garden plots Apt. bldg. where less-member lives Inside of tram

NOVEMBER 8, 2008 SATURDAY

We plotted a couple more zip codes and then we went out to search and find. We spent a lot of time looking for one person, but didn’t find him. Somehow we had not put one connection on our directions so we were guessing. That didn’t work out so we decided to go to another zip code and find two other addresses. We didn’t have such a hard time finding the first one, but evidently he had moved because we couldn’t find his name on the mail box or the nameplate of all the residents next to their doorbell. Another one of those “moved members.” We continued walking to the next address. On our member list it just had the street with no house number, and thinking it would be a small circle or something, we decided to go see if we could find it. It turned out to be a long street. Without a house number there was no way we could find it. So we ended up calling him on the cell phone. He answered and after I introduced us, he said he didn’t have either the time or the interest and hung up. So that is that for this guy. We report all of these contacts or “moved members” at missionary correlation meeting on Sunday morning and also give a copy of the report to Bishop Schwendener and Pres. Matern. We still had time, we thought, to go find one more address. This time we had to go back the other way past where we live to Bahnhof Stettbach. From there we took bus 796 almost to the end. This time the address was only about a half a block away. Nobody was home so we left an invite to stake conference. Our plans were to seek and find, but get back home by about 2:30 so we could have some lunch and then go to the adult session of stake conference. As it turned out we got back about 4:00 which gave us time to freshen up and walk to church. The meeting started at 4:30. The reason we were so late is that we thought the bus ran every half hour. Instead it ran every hour, which is the case on Saturdays.

The message of the adult session of conference was to present the stake goal of doubling the number of active members by this time in 2010. Every member was given the challenge, or I should say invitation, to bring one person into the Church or activate one less-active member. Many inspirational talks were given about personal worthiness, increasing spirituality and knowledge of the gospel, making friends with neighbors and co-workers, increasing your area of influence, being good examples, just loving those around you and being willing to open your mouth and talk about the gospel and to invite. Pres. Bolt said that when we come to conference tomorrow, on every seat will be a card with the goal and steps each member can do to accomplish it.

After conference Sister Aebisher talked to us about her assignment in the ward which is to do a profile on each new member of the ward for the ward newsletter. She invited us to dinner tomorrow evening at 6:30. Diana will love having her photo taken. We came home and finally was able to have lunch/dinner. So, that’s it for tonight.

I think it is a great idea to give a physical card to everyone to guide them on what they should do! Mom, even your photo could bring people to the gospel, and we love seeing you! Those busses actually look quite comfy and nice!

Do the churches there look similar to the ones we have here? Do they have rows of bench seats or are they just chairs? I like to know these things!!
